Video Submissions

For most units of your course there are practical assessments. For each month there are 4 practical assessments (one for each week). The extension lessons (which are not assessed) in each week’s workbook are designed to provide you with practice for the practical assessment. There are 4 sections to each practical assessment; self, peer, assessor 1 and assessor 2.

Assessors will need to be approved with OnlineHorseCollege before undertaking any assessments and undergo a brief induction (usually over the phone). Assessors will also need to send in an assessor application (above), a resume and copies of relevant qualifications.

Alternatively a practical assessment video can be sent in to OnlineHorseCollege for us to assess your practical activities. This can be done by posting a dvd or by uploading the practical video assessment to youtube (using private link settings) and then emailing us the link.

Please read the Practical Assessment Submissions booklet below for detailed information about submitting practical video assessments to OnlineHorseCollege:-

 Practical Assessment Submissions

Below is a brief overview of the above booklet.

Setting up a practical assessment video

Before you begin read the assessment criteria carefully. If you don’t show or forget to include something we cannot assess it and you will need to resubmit that section.

To save time and keep the number of videos to a minimum you can submit multiple assessments in one video recording. For example you can submit 4 weeks practical assessments on one video. Just be sure to let us know what units or sections you have included in your recording.

Use editing to remove irrelevant or unnecessary footage in the video. This will keep the size of your video down (making uploading quicker or saving space on your disc) and means we won’t have to sift through the video to find the footage we need to assess. Horse care videos should be kept to about 10 minutes long, whilst riding and teaching videos may take longer.

This is an example of a well set out video submission for a horse care practical assessment. The student in this video has addressed the assessment criteria whilst demonstrating the primary assessment competencies.

This video is to be used as a guide only and not an example of a competent assessment.

Some practical assessments are designed to be completed by an employer or supervisor (like the assessment pictured below) and for those students without access to these resources it may be difficult to demonstrate these competencies on video. This link is an example of how you can meet the required criteria in a video.

When videoing riding assessments the quickest way to ensure you include everything that is required is to ride the required primary competencies like you are doing a dressage test, riding from one movement to the next.

Coaching videos may be the longest videos to put together. When doing your video assessment make sure that we can see you and your student/s, hear you and your student/s, and can see the set out of your lesson (i.e., cones, markers, whiteboards, demonstrations) as you teach. Remember if we can’t see it, it cannot be assessed.
